- Recognize the impact a pandemic such as COVID-19 has on healthcare delivery and vulnerable population risks.
- Discuss venous ulcer assessment and differentiate between venous ulcers and other lower extremity ulcers.
- Recognize the need for continuing education in nursing in the care of venous ulcers.

About the Presenter
Deetta Vance, DNP, RN, FNP-BC
Dr. Vance has served her community as a nurse since 2008, and as a nurse practitioner since 2013, with experience in palliative medicine, occupational health, and urgent care medicine. She earned her doctorate of nursing practice from the University of Alabama in 2017 and became a full-time assistant professor in the nurse practitioner program at Indiana State University in 2019. She recently became published in the American Nurse Journal on the topic of venous ulcers and care in light of the recent pandemic. In addition to her responsibilities as a professor and nurse practitioner, she also serves as a peer-reviewer for the American Nurse Journal. She views high-quality nursing education and research as fundamental to support the growth and roles of nurses in the community to reach the most optimal outcomes for those nurses serve.
