Learning objectives:

  1. Gain a better understanding of the risks and dangers faced by people who get sick or injured in a foreign country (including foreigners in the US). 
  2. Relate the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct to the care of clients who wish or need to travel despite illness, injury or disability through knowledge of the resources available to support them. 
  3. Understand the variety of insurance that travelers may have, and how to help them access those benefits • Become familiar with the nuances of planning for an international transition of care

 

About the Presenter

Eric Bergman, RN, BA, CCM

Eric is a nurse case manager for a small insurance association serving US government employees through the Office of Personnel Management. He is leveraging his many years of experience in public speaking, writing, and organizational leadership to engage and support the members of the health plan in their health care literacy journey.

After receiving a BA in history from Boston University, Eric worked as a flight attendant and union 
leader for American Airlines for 27 years. In the early 2000’s, Eric became an RN. His initial nursing 
experience was inpatient hospice and oncology. He spent 10 years working for a leading travel 
assistance company, providing worldwide travel assistance for patients struck by sudden illness 
while abroad.
Eric has served on both the CMSA National and CMSA Chicago’s Board of Directors and is a 
frequent national speaker at case management and nursing conferences.
